Recent updates and events of note include:-
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most meetings of the CCSBT during 2022 were conducted online as virtual meetings. Furthermore, the Secretariat’s staff worked remotely for the greater part of 2022.
- Confirmation of the recommended TAC of 17,647 t for 2023 and the allocation of that TAC.
- Recommended TAC increase of 3,000 t to 20,647 t for 2024-2026. The decision on this recommended TAC has been deferred to 2023.
- Completion of the third Performance Review of the CCSBT.
- Updated Resolutions, policies and documents in relation to the:
- Resolution on a CCSBT Record of Vessels Authorised to Fish for Southern Bluefin Tuna, requiring Members to submit information on freezing capacity of their vessels; and
- Requirements for the 2023 Scientific Data Exchange.
- It was noted that Members:
- Are now required to report their use of night setting in the ERSWG Data Exchange in accordance with the definition of night setting set by the relevant tuna RFMOs; and
- May choose to make notifications under Compliance Policy Guideline 5 (action and steps to be taken in relation to extraordinary circumstances) for lack of scientific observer coverage or port inspections when viewed as appropriate.
REWARDS - CCSBT tagging program
